ORGANIZATION HISTORY AND MISSION

The MinKwon Center for Community Action is a dynamic, mission-driven, and people-powered nonprofit organization that serves, educates, and organizes the Korean American, Asian Pacific American (APA), and immigrant communities in New York and around the country. The MinKwon Center offers free assistance with public benefits, health insurance enrollment, and taxes; provides free legal representation for immigration and housing, promotes civic participation with voter and census registration and outreach, and organizes campaigns with other local, state, and federal coalitions. By prioritizing the needs and voices of low-income, undocumented, youth, senior, and limited English proficient residents, we are building a multilingual, multi-generational base of engaged community members to achieve social and economic justice for all.

Job Description

This position is a temporary, full-time, one year position.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Record all phone inquiries, answer questions, provide basic information about health programs, and provide referrals for application or renewal assistance to the Health Policy & Program Manager.
  • Administer all in-person and virtual events and activities for health insurance education and outreach, including but not limited to: tabling, flyering, and virtual education events.
  • Recruit and train volunteers for the health program to assist in outreach events, design and draft virtual and in-person outreach materials and events, and conduct regular outreach efforts.
  • Disseminate the latest public health information and resources via our social media channels and cultural media (i.e. Kakaotalk, Korean newspapers).
  • Support the implementation of new coverage options for New Yorkers in 2025.
  • Collaborate effectively with other staff, volunteers, and external agencies in order to fulfill goals.
  • Provide logistical and other support as required by supervising staff.

Qualifications:

Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of the following:

  • English and Korean or Chinese proficiency is required.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work well both independently and in teams.
  • Knowledge, interest, and commitment towards concepts and issues of public health, outreach, and education activities, especially in the context of the Korean American, AAPI, and/or immigrant communities.
  • Experience related to public health, program management, and administrative work.
  • Ability to be highly organized, meet deadlines, take initiative on projects with minimal supervision and a sense of ownership, and follow up on communications in a consistent and punctual manner.
  • Proficiency in using Google and Microsoft Office Suite, such as Drive and Excel.
