Purpose of the job

The Tool Room Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of our stamping operations. This position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of dies used in our stamping presses, ensuring they function at optimal performance to minimize downtime and maintain production quality. The individual in this role will lead the tool room team, manage tool inventory, and implement preventative maintenance strategies to support continuous production. Strong problem-solving skills and expertise in die repair and press troubleshooting are essential for maintaining our commitment to delivering defect-free products on time and at competitive prices.

Essential Job Responsibilities

· Lead, train, and develop toolmakers, machinists, and maintenance personnel within the tool room.

· Establish best practices for tool and die maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

· Manage tool room workflow, prioritize repairs, and allocate resources efficiently to meet production schedules.

· Maintain inventory of die components, spare parts, and tool steels to prevent production delays.

· Work with purchasing to ensure cost-effective procurement of tooling materials while maintaining high-quality standards.

· Track tool room expenditures and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising performance. Establish and enforce safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment.

· Work closely with production teams to address stamping press and tooling issues in real time to minimize downtime.

· Analyze tooling failures, determine root causes, and implement corrective measures to improve die performance.

· Assist in set up and adjustments of dies to ensure proper function and quality production.

· Oversee the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of progressive, transfer, and line dies used in stamping presses.

· Diagnose die-related issues, perform corrective actions, and implement preventive maintenance strategies to extend tool life.

· Ensure all dies are properly sharpened, adjusted, and maintained for optimal performance.

· Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies related to equipment operation and maintenance.

· Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the tool room.

· Ensure tool room personnel adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and lockout/tagout procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within an automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of hydraulic and mechanical press operations.
  • Strong understanding of quality control procedures and maintenance practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards.
