Position Purpose

The Tissue Recovery Supervisor directly manages the tissue recovery staff, training, and day to day operations of the tissue team. In addition to having a working knowledge of tissue recovery, the Tissue Recovery Supervisor understands the tissue banking industry and should have working knowledge of the recovery department procedures and daily operations.

The Tissue Recovery Supervisor executes policy created by Directors and keeps their Recovery Coordinators and Part-time/Per Diem Recovery staff informed of events in their area of responsibility. The Tissue Recovery Supervisor ensures the department supports LWVI’s Quality program and is in compliance with LWVI Policies and Procedures, American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB), Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA) Medical Standards and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Good Tissue Practices (GTP’s). All LWVI employees must be good stewards of the donor’s gift and to those who will receive this precious gift for transplant and/or research.

Schedule and Pay

• $56,576 -$79,186 salary range
• Mon - Fri, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm ET schedule

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Supports the Mission, Vision, and Values of LWVI and exhibits a personal commitment to Eye, Organ and Tissue donation.
• Readily accessible to dispatch when activated
• Responsible for overseeing day to day home office supply management/ordering, lab cleaning, equipment oversight, and recovery pack packing.
• Responds to notification of pending cases within 30 minutes by phone, and reports to the office within 60 minutes of initial notice of pending case.
• Travel throughout respective recovery area (via automobile) and to opposing office required.
• Familiarity with hospital and medical examiner policies/practices/procedures relating to donation.
• Familiarity with working relationships with the Organ Procurement Organizations.
• Interacts professionally and respectfully as a representative of LWVI in hospital, funeral home, and transplant/donation settings.
• Directly manages tissue recovery staff and office at designated tissue branch offices including but not limited to:
• Advises on final selection in the hiring of Recovery Department personnel;
• Staffing and training according to the needs of the Recovery Department;
• Conducting periodic performance reviews and annual performance evaluations of staff.
• Administration of corrective action to technicians as needed.
• Overseeing shift activities and prioritizing as appropriate.
• With guidance from their Manager and in cooperation with other LWVI management, sets and manages procedures and systems to process consented cases to include: the receipt and handling of new cases and expeditious recoveries;
• Work in coordination with department head to set and manage internal quality controls measuring recovery department performance, effectiveness and efficiency, providing coaching and feedback on a weekly basis;
• Support the Recovery Department processes and evaluate results.This will include providing the Director of Recovery comprehensive reports regarding tissue cases providing timely and accurate reports including but not limited to:
• Staffing, scheduling and attendance
• Tissue productivity
• Tissue quality and efficiency metrics
• Tissue statistics
• Interacts with other transplant agencies and inter/cross-departmental management on donor related issues;
• Communicates recovery-related challenges with facilities and partners to the department head for assistance in resolution;
• Make every effort to stay informed of industry standards and regulations as related to donor or tissue related issues and regulatory compliance;
• Reviews recovered cases routinely for proper performance management purposes;
• Ensures recoveries are staffed and responded to in the most efficient and time appropriate manner possible;
• Act as tissue recovery coordinator as required;
• Reviews training checklists for efficient follow through and completion;
• Operates and maintains company vehicles as required
• Perform facility cleaning and equipment maintenance as required
• Performs all job functions in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations, Eye Bank Association of American Medical Standards (EBAA), American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) standards, and LWVI standard operating procedures.
• Performs other duties and completes projects as required.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required;
• Work experience in allied health care (Surgical Technician, Ophthalmic Technologists, EMT, ER Technician, etc.), may substitute educational requirement
• Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and disease processes preferred
• Organ, Eye or Tissue Recovery experience preferred
• A valid Driver’s License and insurance is required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with LWVI, hospital and donation partner staff.
• Strong working knowledge of aseptic technique, applicable state and federal regulations, American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB), Eye Bank Association of America Medical Standards, and LWVI standard operating procedures.
• Must read and write English.
• Must be able to work days, nights, weekends and long hours when needed.
• Must have reliable, dependable transportation to and from work. Company vehicle provided for recovery.
• Must have a dependable cell phone number for contract during hours of on call.
• Effective interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
• Ability to adapt to changing technology implemented to stay competitive.
• Computer software skills including but not limited to: MS Outlook and Word.

• Maintain a professional appearance and behavior when working at LWVI offices or at the premises of a partner (such as but not limited to hospitals, medical examiner offices, or funeral homes.

Work Environment

The work is performed primarily in an office setting. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
