The Tyagi Lab at the University of Louisville is seeking a postdoctoral candidate to investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of neurological diseases, such as ischemia stroke and Alzheimer’s disease, and identify novel therapeutic targets for these devastating diseases with a focus on the role of epigenetic regulation, microRNAs, gut-microbiota and exosome on protein regulation and degradation. The candidate should be highly self-motivated and be able to lead a research project. The candidate is expected to participate in writing manuscripts and scientific reports. The candidate should be able to design, execute and troubleshoot experiments and to analyze and interpret results independently. Candidate should have hands-on experience on surgical focal/global ischemia model/or MCAO model is desired. Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills are essential.

Research Focus :

The successful candidate will utilize advanced unbiased omics approaches—including RNA-Seq, PRO-Seq, ChIP-Seq, and transcriptome—to identify and characterize genetic and epigenetic alterations that contribute to the relationship between proinflammatory signaling and ischemic brain injury. Functional validation will involve both in vitro and in vivo models (middle cerebral artery occlusion), including brain endothelial/microglial cell lines and patient-derived organoids (PDOs).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Candidate should have hands-on experience on surgical focal/global ischemia model/or MCAO, TBI model is desired.
  • Design and conduct experiments using high-throughput sequencing and single-cell technologies.
  • Perform molecular biology techniques (e.g., qPCR, Western blotting, immunostaining).
  • Analyze transcriptomic, epigenomic, and proteomic data using bioinformatics tools.
  • Conduct experiments in rodent models(mouse) and cell cultures.
  • Collaborate with team members and contribute to manuscript preparation and grant writing.
  • Present research findings at internal meetings and national/international conferences.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • PhD or MD/PhD in Neuroscience or a related field.
  • Strong background in neurobiology, vascular biology, or epigenetic regulation.
  • Experience with middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) and TBI surgery
  • Behavior study (memory function) in mouse model is preferred.
  • A track record of first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.

Competencies :

  • Ability to work with others and collaborate on projects.
  • Excellent writing skills, specifically help PI in grants and research paper publications.
  • Candidate should have hands-on experience on surgical focal/global ischemia model/or MCAO model is desired.
