Job Title: Onshore Termination & Joint Inspector
Location: Providence, Rhode Island
Duration: 6 months with a possible 3-month extension
Start Date (1st Mobilization): June 20
Schedule: Monday–Friday + ad hoc work as needed (subject to OIM communication)
Hours per Week: 50 hours
Travel Expenses: Covered according to project expense policy
Job Summary:
The Onshore Termination & Joint Inspector will be responsible for overseeing and inspecting high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) cable jointing and termination works. This role supports quality assurance, testing oversight, documentation, and on-site coordination for an offshore wind power export cable project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform inspections of cable systems at offshore/onshore locations using the designated reporting tools
- Witness VLF, sheath, and OTDR testing, as well as other cable/termination tests
- Ensure the contractor delivers complete documentation in line with RAMS
- Enforce company HSE (Health, Safety, and Environmental) requirements
Tasks Include:
- QA/QC inspections of termination work
- Daily progress reports to the Export Cable Technical Scope Manager
- Review of contractor progress reports and schedules
- Manage project documentation per records management protocols
- Submit and follow up on Permit to Work requests (e.g., Safety Rules)
- Ensure SAP availability for switching activities
- Coordinate and ensure timely execution of cable testing activities
- Monitor availability of test equipment
- Create end-of-shift reports and technical recommendations
- Interface with cable installation contractors, WTG, FOU, and OSS packages
- Document handover certifications and collect weather data
- Issue Non-Conformance and Defect Notifications
- Archive relevant jointing and termination documentation
Deliverables:
- On-site technical recommendations and installation interface inputs
- Daily and technical reports
- Meeting minutes with contractors
- Lessons learned input for project engineering
- Quality-assured documentation archived in the record management system
Role Objectives / KPIs:
- Ensure thorough inspection and quality assurance of all jointing and termination works on onshore cables and connection equipment
- Support timely and compliant project delivery by identifying and mitigating risks
Decision-Making Authority / Responsibilities:
- Recommend project-related changes (timeline, budget, or quality) to the Export Cable Project Engineer and Technical Scope Manager
Mandatory Requirements:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Valid First Aid Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
- HV/MV jointing or termination training and experience
- Experience or training in:
- VLF (Very Low Frequency) testing
- OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) testing
- Safe work in high and low voltage substation environments
- Familiarity with:
- HV/MV cable jointing and termination practices
- Cable ladder and cleating systems
- Subsea cable hang-off systems
- Earthing and bonding systems
- CDM Regulations 2015
- Orsted IT tools and procedures (preferred)
Note: This is a fully onshore role.
