About Longitude Rx

Longitude Health Specialty pharmacy (“LHRx”) is the first initiative for Longitude Health. LHRx aims to improve patient access and adherence to specialty medications by providing solutions that support health systems in managing their specialty pharmacies. Hospital specialty pharmacies serve patients with complex health needs requiring a high level of clinical intervention and oversight. LH’s goal is to create a set of capabilities supporting integrated care that will improve patient outcomes, reduce costs, and scale across health care organizations.

Position Summary

The Manager of Specialty Pharmacy Operations is responsible for overseeing the strategic, financial, and operational aspects of client specialty pharmacy services. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, optimizes pharmacy operations, enhances patient care, and drives business growth. The manager will collaborate with healthcare providers, payers, manufacturers, and internal stakeholders to improve service delivery, operational efficiency, and financial performance.

Core Responsibilities

Operational Leadership:

  • Oversee daily specialty pharmacy care coordinators, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Manage specialty clinic workflows to improve capture of prescriptions.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to optimize workflow and patient outcomes.
  • Monitor and enhance medication fulfillment, adherence programs, and patient support services.
  • Utilize technology and automation to improve operational performance.

Strategic Planning & Business Development:

  • Develop and execute strategic plans to expand specialty pharmacy services.
  • Identify and implement growth opportunities, including payer contracts, manufacturer partnerships, and accreditation expansion.
  • Analyze market trends and competitor activities to position the organization for success.

Regulatory & Compliance Management:

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation regulations (e.g., URAC, ACHC, Joint Commission).
  • Maintain adherence to policies regarding medication safety, HIPAA, and controlled substances.
  • Lead audit preparation and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Financial Performance & Cost Management:

  • Develop and manage budgets, ensuring financial sustainability and profitability.
  • Monitor revenue cycles, reimbursement strategies, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Oversee contract negotiations with pharmaceutical manufacturers, payers, and vendors.

Patient-Centered Care & Clinical Collaboration:

  • Work with healthcare providers to enhance specialty medication therapy management.
  • Develop programs to improve patient access, adherence, and outcomes.
  • Support initiatives for personalized medicine and specialty drug therapies.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop pharmacy staff, ensuring high performance and engagement.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and innovation.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve service delivery and patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required; Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) or Healthcare Administration (MHA) preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 7–10 years of experience in pharmacy operations, including at least 5 years in a leadership role in specialty pharmacy.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Active pharmacist license in good standing in the state where work will be performed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of specialty pharmacy regulations, payer models, and accreditation standards.
  • Expertise in financial management, reimbursement strategies, and contract negotiations.
  • Proven leadership ability to drive operational excellence and business growth.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
