Title: Laboratory Technician

Duration: 12 months contract (possible extension)

Location: Millsboro, DE

Overview

Responsible for assisting with critical laboratory procedures and duties in the production of veterinary products. This role involves moderate supervision and hands-on work with technical equipment, primarily in cell culture processes throughout the manufacturing cycle.

Responsibilities:

• Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and company safety policies at all times.
• Proper gowning required before entering labs/production areas (scrubs and full gowning).

Section A (90% of time):

• Clean work areas including floors, walls, and tables.
• Prepare, clean, and sterilize glassware and equipment.
• Assist with equipment setup and operation.
• Perform aseptic procedures such as media preparation, antigen inoculation/harvest, tissue culture preparation, embryo harvest, and vaccine filling.
• Conduct incubation, weighing, and record keeping (charts, logbooks, documentation).
• Maintain safe work habits and safe work environment.

Section B (10% of time):

• Filling, labeling, capping, packaging, and visual inspection of products.
• Assist in training new team members.
• Report unusual or non-routine occurrences.
• Handle hazardous wastes (with prior training).
• Perform non-aseptic procedures, including poultry handling for tissue/waste harvesting.
• Assist in reviewing/developing SOPs and production outlines.
• Review production records and enter technical data.
• Attend training sessions/workshops to improve job skills.
• Monitor and requisition laboratory supplies.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma/GED with 2–3 years of laboratory experience OR Bachelor's degree in sciences (fresh graduates acceptable).
• Must not currently live/work on a poultry farm/environment.
• Prior experience in a regulated industry and/or aseptic cleanroom production environment.
• Basic laboratory knowledge (pipettes, stir plates, cylinders).
• Preferred: Familiarity with hatchery operations (egg harvesting, candling, inoculation).
• Good communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to follow instructions.
• Competency in Microsoft Office; ability to perform basic math calculations/conversions.
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively at all levels.
• Flexibility to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and rotating shifts as required.
