Job Description

We are seeking a Freelance Instructional Designer to develop engaging, effective training materials for a fast-paced restaurant environment. In this role, you will create operational training content—such as food preparation procedures, equipment usage guides, and kitchen process documentation—designed to support team members at all levels of experience.

3 month contract

Flexible hybrid to Newport Beach

Restaurant experience is highly preferred!

Responsibilities:

  • Design and update a range of training resources (eLearning modules, instructional videos, digital/print job aids, recipe cards) in alignment with brand standards.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts to distill complex information into clear, visually compelling materials.
  • Contribute to all phases of training project development: needs analysis, planning, content creation, editing, and deployment.
  • Maintain and refresh ongoing training materials as processes and standards evolve.
  • Prepare final deliverables for distribution via learning management systems, intranet platforms, or print (including localization when necessary).
  • Assist with learning management system administration: upload/archive files and update certifications or enrollments as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Graphic Design, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Up to2 years of experience in training development, restaurant/retail operations, HR, or similar areas.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe InDesign; familiarity with Illustrator and Photoshop is a plus.
  • Experience using Articulate Rise360 required; knowledge of Storyline360 is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to simplify complex topics into accessible visual formats; skilled at document formatting and template use.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to multitask and adapt in a dynamic environment.
