Job Description

Delta T Equipment, Houston’s premier HVAC and Plumbing manufacturer’s representative, is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to join our team. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for projects in commercial construction, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and plumbing. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of mechanical construction methods, materials, labor costs, and industry practices.

About the Role:

As an Estimator at Delta T Equipment, you’ll play a critical role in turning customer needs into actionable solutions. Your main responsibility will be producing accurate and timely estimates for equipment and systems in large-scale HVAC and plumbing projects. You'll collaborate with sales teams, manufacturers, and customers to ensure the delivery of competitive, high-value solutions—and ultimately contribute to the success of projects across the industry. You’ll be empowered to combine technical expertise with exceptional customer focus to deliver results that exceed expectations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate projects: Review plans/specs; flag risks, cost drivers, and constructability issues.
  • Takeoffs & costing: Perform material/labor/equipment takeoffs; build estimates using software, historicals, and supplier/sub quotes.
  • Vendor coordination: Solicit/evaluate quotes; maintain current cost databases and vendor relationships.
  • Bids & proposals: Prepare complete bid packages; collaborate with PMs and engineers to align scope and assumptions.
  • Project handoff: Provide scope breakdowns and cost documentation to project management for smooth award transitions.
  • Collaboration & Communicate: Work closely with internal teams, contractors, engineers, and vendors; attend pre-bid/job walks as needed.

 

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Experience: 3+ years estimating commercial HVAC and/or plumbing projects; familiar working with engineers and General/MEP contractors.
  • Education: Associate or Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
  • Technical Skills: Solid understanding of mechanical systems, duct/piping layouts, code requirements; reads blueprints/schematics confidently.
  • Tools: Proficiency with estimating software (Trimble, FastPIPE/FastDUCT, Bluebeam, or equivalent) and Microsoft Excel/Word/Outlook/Teams.
  • Attributes: Detail-obsessed accuracy, strong math/analysis, organized under tight deadlines, clear communicator, and team player.
  • Nice to have: Process-builder mindset—experience creating estimating/bidding workflows and leveraging tech to improve them.
