Job Description

Summary:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

The EHS Engineer provides technical and safety support to plant personnel regarding OSHA regulations and state environmental regulations.

The core tasks, duties, responsibilities that typically make up the EHS engineer job description are listed below:

  • Actively contribute to establishing company-wide best practices and standards for EHS and help champion a culture that promotes environmental health and safety focusing on leading indicators that can deliver a world class EHS culture.
  • The environmental health and safety engineer is involved in assessing operation and initiating programs to ensure compliance with applicable EHS policies, regulations, principles, and practices.
  • The Engineer provides support in the identification, analysis, and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of engineering knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Responsible for the analysis of proposed occupational policies, guidelines, and standards to establish their consistency with accepted engineering principles and practices and recommend technical changes as required.
  • Coordinate and audit the plant incident investigation process to identify, eradicate or control hazardous conditions which may lead to human injury and property or product damage.
  • Identify pre-injury trends during audits, verify compliance with established safety/health procedures, and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Follow-up audit findings with suggested corrective actions, and establish metrics such as injury exposure, incidents and parameters to measure progress toward the attainment of plant safety goals.
  • Leads the safety committee meetings to identify safety concerns and make recommendations.
  • Develop and conduct periodic safety audits/assessments to evaluate compliance to regulations and facility safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for development of safety and environmental training materials.
  • Provide advice and hands on support in such activities as job hazard analysis, risk assessment, environmental monitoring and incident investigation and analysis.
  • Encourage and advocate for safer work equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Track the number of incidents and produce reports.
  • Monitor exposure to certain hazardous chemicals.
  • Report to Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA) and other relevant organizations.
  • Attend seminars/workshops for further education

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, in engineering/environmental, or natural sciences.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing plant EHS engineer,
  • Good time-management skills.
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills.
