Position Descrip tion

U.S. Congresswoman Ashley Hinson has an immediate need to hire two (2) District Representatives in a full-time capacity. These positions will be based Dubuque (1).

The District Representative serves an important role in the Member’s district office. Working closely with the District Director, the District Representative is responsible for serving as the Member’s representative out in the community and acting as a liaison with federal, district, and local agencies.

The District Representative builds and maintains an active network of constituent relationships in support of the Member’s representational responsibilities, and plays a critical role in soliciting constituent feedback for both the Member and the wider team.

Responsibilities:

  • Builds and maintains relationships with constituents and key community leaders and stakeholders
  • Ensures outreach efforts align with the Member’s strategic vision and goals
  • Serves as a representative for the Member at various community events in the district
  • Coordinates closely with the District Director and D.C. staff to ensure district priorities are reflective in legislative priorities
  • Informs the District Director and the Member of up-and-coming issues in the district
  • Supports the Member with her district travel, including competition of her quarterly 22 County Tour

Qualifications:

  • Experience developing a community relations strategy for a Member of Congress, elected official, or Federal agency
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Expertise in developing and maintaining relationships with constituents and community leaders
  • Political savvy and comfortable navigating complicated situations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking skills
  • Able to influence and advise people to achieve desired outcomes
  • Teamwork skills
  • Deep commitment to improving constituents’ lives
  • Able to maintain composure and professionalism in every interaction with constituents

Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in government, political science, social work, social science, or related field; or experience in working in public service, community relations, public affairs, or related field
  • A demonstrated interest in public service
  • Knowledge of Iowa’s second congressional district
