A leading organization is seeking a skilled and strategic Director of Legal Affairs to oversee its legal operations and compliance programs. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this leadership role will manage a wide range of legal functions, including contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, export control, facility security, and dispute resolution. The Director will work closely with internal teams and outside counsel to mitigate legal risk and ensure operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead contract management, including negotiation and review of commercial and government agreements
Ensure compliance with federal regulations such as FAR, DFARS, ITAR, EAR, and OFAC
Act as Export Compliance Officer and Facility Security Officer, maintaining required licenses, registrations, and security clearances
Develop and implement company-wide legal and compliance policies, including anti-corruption and data privacy programs
Provide legal guidance to senior leadership and manage relationships with external counsel
Support business registration, supplier certifications, and subcontracting compliance under federal guidelines
Anticipate and manage legal disputes, working to resolve issues efficiently and with minimal business impact
Qualifications:
Active license to practice law in Michigan
Experience in government contracting and trade compliance
Ability to obtain and manage security clearance
Strong legal research, risk assessment, and communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and contract management systems
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
