JOB SUMMARY
The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting activities. This position directs the development and implementation of financial strategies, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and provides leadership in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting to support the company’s strategic objectives. The Controller ensures accurate and timely financial reporting and maintains robust internal controls to support operational efficiency and profitability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are included, but other responsibilities may be assigned as needed:
  • Develops and implements goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to financial management, budget, accounting, and/or payroll.
  • Prepares financial statements and reports and reviews with management team.
  • Directs the maintenance of the general ledger, subsidiary ledgers, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cost accounting, and inventory valuation.
  • Maintains general and subsidiary ledgers, accounts receivable, revenue distribution, Cost of goods sold, depreciation, and other expenses.
  • Conducts in-depth financial analysis, including profitability, cost variance, and product margin analysis, to support strategic decision-making.
  • Prepares and presents financial reports to senior management, the CFO, and the board of directors, providing actionable insights.
  • Coordinates preparation of external audit materials for annual review.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including sales, use, and business taxes, and performs timely filings.

  • Collaborates with other departments to align financial strategies with operational goals and company objectives.
  • Supervises and mentors accounting staff, fostering a high-performance team environment and ensuring professional development.
  • May be assigned additional project responsibilities, as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises employees in the Accounting Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/ or Experience
  • BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2-4 years in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in a manufacturing or construction environment.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Proficiency in financial ERP systems, preferably Netsuite, and advanced Excel skills.

Language Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret accounting/financial information and systems. 
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from internal and external customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, percentages, and perform variance analysis.

  • Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to conduct financial investigations and provide actionable recommendations based on findings.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is an on-site role based in Youngstown, OH, and employees must have reliable transportation. Dearing Compressor is a drug-free workplace. Work includes both office and plant settings. The office is generally quiet, while plant areas require PPE (steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection) and may involve exposure to machinery, odors, particles, and vibration.
