Job Description

Yorktel is currently seeking an onsite AV Technician III who will be based at the customer location and will manage all AV technology there, ensuring it is in proper working order and supporting VIP events. They will interface directly with the customer to ensure complete user satisfaction in their collaboration and event experiences.

This position will report to the Customer Success Manager and will be based at the customer’s location in Washington, DC. The individual will interface directly with the customer to perform their role, as well as with Yorktel's internal departments for support as needed.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Customer Interaction & Problem Resolution:

  • Influence internal and external customers to achieve mutually desirable outcomes.
  • Make recommendations regarding concerns or issues and collaborate with team members to ensure problem resolution.
  • Plan regularly to support incoming customer issues.
  • Communicate answers to complex questions and respond to detailed inquiries.
  • Handle and protect confidential information, utilizing discretion and judgment based on company policies and procedures.

Technical Duties:

  • Inspect all exhibits to ensure proper audio/video operation.
  • Make exhibits available for early or late visits (before/after normal hours of operation).
  • Collaborate with other departments when videotaping in the gallery.
  • Ensure interactive displays and stations are operational.
  • Assist in the installation of replacement monitors and other AV equipment.
  • Replace projector bulbs as needed.
  • Repair source streaming devices (e.g., DVD or Digital Media Players).
  • Repair broken Soundsticks (hand-held speaker wand devices) used throughout the Museum.

Setup and Support:

  • Setup and assist in classrooms, conference rooms, and other areas in the Museum for:
  • Meetings and presentations
  • Staff training (Laptop setups)
  • Video conferencing
  • Audio conferencing
  • Portable sound systems
  • Audio recording
  • Support Museum theaters for:
  • Meetings and presentations, including AV setup and operation during events, with recording as requested.
  • First Person Events Series (March-September): Setup and manage AV for on-stage interviews and Q&A sessions, including:
  • Setting up captioning equipment.
  • Adjusting audio levels for theater and live-stream audiences.
  • Setting four camera views for live-streaming and recording.
  • Setting up audience microphones.
  • Assisting with PowerPoint presentations.

  • Premier Film Screenings: Assist Museum staff and contracted AV crew with setups.
  • Video Conferencing: Setup and support Museum staff as needed.
  • Webcast Streaming: Generate and manage event streams, supporting Museum staff as needed.
  • Audio/Video Recording: Manage recordings, compress, and distribute internally.

Special Events: Setup and support during events, including after-hours and weekends.

  • Support AV operations and special events at the Museum’s Maryland facility.
  • Support outside AV contractors for initial setups and during events.
  • Operate robotic cameras and video switchers.

Exhibit Installations:

  • Assist with the planning, installation, and post-implementation management of new exhibit AV systems during transitions between temporary exhibits.
  • Understand the customer environment fully and provide recommendations for improvements to meet client objectives and identify potential opportunities for Yorktel.

Coordination and Maintenance:

  • Coordinate with other vendors and service providers to resolve issues promptly.
  • Drive incidents to resolution, escalating to other vendors and service providers as needed.
  • Interact with the customer’s incident management system.
  • Provide activity and SLA reporting.
  • Manage and track equipment inventory, ensuring Yorktel’s CMDB is maintained and accurate.
  • Create and maintain SOPs and run books related to job functions.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on all A/V technologies.
  • Perform scheduled checks on all exhibit and conference spaces.
  • Assist clients with the use of all A/V technologies.
  • Create and maintain user documentation/quick reference guides (QRG) on the use of A/V technology.
  • Troubleshoot related technology to a tier II level.
  • Escalate facilities and non-related issues to the customer and/or their responsible providers.
  • Escalate technical issues to the customer and/or their responsible providers.
  • Own incidents through resolution.

  • Resolve support issues and assist in diagnosing and resolving higher-level issues.
  • Possess a solid understanding of the A/V technology used and its application.

Web Streaming and Conferencing:

  • Vaddio A/V Bridge for video streaming and webcasting

  • Zoom/Google Meet video codecs

Specialized AV Equipment:

  • Assisted listening systems
  • Cisco switches
  • Elo & custom touch interface devices

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience working in live events production or integrated audio-visual systems integration.
  • Experience working onsite and remotely performing system commissioning, testing, and integration.
  • General competency and knowledge of major AV vendor hardware and their product functionality.
  • CTS certification or equivalent work experience (preferred).
  • Experience with Crestron/show control systems (a plus).
  • Experience programming audio DSPs (Biamp, Crestron, and/or QSC) is a plus.
  • Experience operating video switchers.
  • Experience operating analog and digital audio consoles (A1).
  • Experience supporting video conferencing meetings with multiple participants.
  • Ability to read and follow AV system flow diagrams and support documentation.

  • Willingness to work early and late hours as needed.
  • A team player with a clear understanding of Yorktel’s business.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
  • Requires extensive sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Willing to travel with multi-night stays within and occasionally outside the local work area.
  • Must be willing to complete background checks and drug tests as required by current or future contracts.
